Holiday Slackage!

MAN! Did I fall back on my working out and dieting bit or what?!? Thanksgiving really did me in with all of it's cheese cake, peanutbutter pie and whatnot.

I have some serious getting in the groove to do this week. My application for fire school is due on the first and I still have to have things notarized, my fingerprints taken at the PD, and a physical exam done.

money money....spend it to make it.

I was quite a bit stressed out about getting kiddo stuff for christmas....since I'm broke all the time and all of my extra cash is going to getting into school....but then JoAnne my bestest friend in the world told me she needs a new home for her turtle and it's fantastic aquatic set up!! YAY! I just happen to know a little girl who's been asking santa for a turtle for years! And I refuse to buy ANY critter from a pet store...this is a family turtle!

JoAnne is moving to Idaho...no....Ohio?...no no that's not right either...Utah?? CRAP!! Where the hell is my bestest friend in the whole world moving to?!? OREGON!! Thats it...she's moving to Oregon and can't take her turtle with her so BAM! Instant christmas gift!

Is it a red-eared turtle? I used to keep turtles. They grew very large but most of them were very friendly. I fed them on prawns, cheese and fresh meat.

not sure what sort of turtle this is. I do know his food comes in a jar that says "turtle food" on it. I was wondering if our beta fish would be able to live with him, but I'm guessing not.

You need to supplement the 'turtle' food with some real food.

The turtle will eventually kill and eat the fish.

yeah I figure the turtle would want to eat the fish eventually...so cheese and meats eh? fresh meats as in a bit of raw hamburger? I really need to find out what kind of turtle he is and educate myself. She's had him since he was a hatchling and doesn't know squat about him herself.

Real meat not hamburger :-)
Beef, pork , prawns, salmon. Also lettuce and a small piece of a Brewer's Yeast tablet every now and then. You could feed it live food (Not whole pigs or cows, obviously) but it may be too gruesome to watch -small shrimp perhaps.(Don't feed it on tadpoles or guppies - I nearly cried)

Turtles need lots of calcium and vitamin D. They will eat cooked food but prefer the meat raw.

Post a pic of the turtle (when you can ) and I will identify it for you.

last time I saw it it was (holding hands out) about this big...heh, yeah maybe 6 inches from head end to tail end of his shell.

Hopfully I'll be stoping by her house to measure his tank soon, if so I'll snap a couple pics of him for sure..

Thanks so much for all the turtle info, Im a mammal expert, amphibians are new to me!

I really want to set up his tank better for him too, he can't ever really get out of the water the way it is now....it just seems things could be a bit more interesting for him

The turtle needs to be able to get out onto a rock so that it can sunbathe under a bulb.

Take a look at
this page for more information.
